A new banana will be implemented by producer farms in Costa Rica and Ecuador. This banana will be differentiated by production under the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, in order to improve the state of the ecosystems where the plantations are located, as well as the quality of life of the workers.
An important aspect of the project is the transfer of knowledge; of sustainable cultivation practices, together with agriculturists and experts who are prepared in such a way that they can be adopted by other interested farms and entities in the banana sector.
The actions that lead this project to stand out are the implementation by the Costa Rican and Ecuadorian plantations of 34 measures in favor of sustainability during cultivation.
The reduction of the carbon footprint of the farms, the optimization of irrigation with soil moisture measurement systems, and the use of covers without insecticides to cover the fruit. These is some of the measures that will be taken to promote sustainability with the environment.
This past year suffered a decrease of just 3.8% in volumes, if we compare it to 2018, not as they predicted it would be 35%, it was a very successful year for our sector.
